Anybody want to make some map designs?

I was thinking it would be fairly easy for me to add a system whereby a user could pass a list of x and y coordinates when they are creating a map. This positions could the the starting pos of each players home star.

I could then scale these to the homestar distance, and scatter the star field around them.

If anybody is interested in giving this a try, please post a list of x,y coordinates here in some kind of interesting formation and we can test it out.

format should be probably be a json string with an array of arrays.

I’m definitely interested in trying this.
Questions:
How big is the map?
Are the distances between each 1/3 of a ly?
We are simply doing starting locations and you are having the game generate the rest?

Some ideas I’d like to see would be:
Doughnut, just Circular with no center stars.
Asterix, Circular with gaps that force all the interaction to go to the center.
Wrapped, if it is too difficult to modify the game to treat the map like it is on the outside of a cylinder, could specific stars be linked like on a Risk map?
Or what if those stars were mirrored on opposite sides? This would be like the Wormhole idea that has floated around. The data for those stars would reference the same data slot, so whomever owned and upgraded that star, would effectively look like they had 2 stars on the map, but it was really the same star in 2 spots.

I was thinking each home star should just be one unit apart, then I will scale them to meet the home start distance setting. I will then scatter the rest of the stars around the home stars.

The wrap around maps is a much bigger job.

@Dysp I particularly like the 16 players inside and 16 outside the circle idea, the current 32 player circle is too sparse.

Perhaps a square with a X thru it (5 points, (0,0), (1,0), (0,1), (-1,0), (0,-1) would be the simplest version, but similar to the doughnut or asterix, force ppl into certain paths to expand.

Spirals out from first co-ord’. 128 points, use first 8,16,32 or 64 or for 32 & 64 player games you could omit some of the first coord’s and have an empty middle.
