Chat for all - IRC, XMPP (Jabber)?

Hello,

first topic here from me. Also just started the game a few days ago, seems great so far.
But I am kind of missing a global chat to hang out in. From what I’ve read there was such a thing in NP1 but it probably won’t come back.
So why is there no official IRC or XMPP channel somewhere? Or have I missed this?

Hi BOb, welcome to the forums.

Some of the guys here use Google Hangouts for chat, but it more specific to particular games (usually team games).
