This may actually be a feature request, but I went for bugs first because this does work in event (battle) reports.
Basically if you insert a link to a star in a message but subsequently rename the star the old message link doesn’t work anymore (in fact the actual [[name-link]] is replaced with (name) ). However, as mentioned above, this still works in the battle report star link - it shows the old name but still links to the same star even with a new name.
(Additionally I can’t seem to get carrier links to work with or without renaming. Even linking my own carriers it just shows as (Name) with no active link. Again, I’m not sure if this a bug, user error or a feature request.)
