Let’s say I’m at 143/144 points of research to get a new tech, and I have 3 points of science. I’m placed at 2/288 on the next level, even if I have another tech queued; why can’t the spilled over points be applied to the “research next” tech instead of the one I just finished?

Your research centers work together in their research.
Your research come in chunks, you get 3/hr, so it will be 3 every hour.
Like how hot dogs come in packs of 10 and buns come in 8. You might only need 8, but go buy a pack of each and watch how it doesn’t magically change the 10th hot dog into a bun to make it 9 & 9 just because 10 is too many.
You get packs of 10, so you get 10. Just like if you’d get research in packs of 3, you get 3.
I mean, technically you are saying, I want to research 3 points in this science, then switch to the other if the first finishes.
Also, it’s easier to code it to just add the total than what’s necessary, but the system is fine as it is, most times you end up going back to that research and not starting at 0 can make your time needed shorter so it kind of evens out.
