Elimination conditions?

Hi all, I’m new to this. What are the elimination conditions? Eg if you have no stars but ships in hyperspace, are you still in the game?

When you have no stars, and your carriers are in flight, it is possible that those carriers might capture a star, so you are still in the game.

When you have no stars and no carriers, then no hope, you are KO.
