Flying Swiss 1v1 Tournament [FS 06/2022]

The second round seeding will be the same, however, this time games in that round will have 3 weeks to conclude.

OK - so those dates you gave in your opening message will slightly change I guess? Sounds good - and I’m keen to join if you still have a space for me please.

If I’m not too late can I still join?
Timezones are weird.

@Trucriot there we a couple of times in my close games where we were down to the wire… And knowing when the game was going to end would have had an impact… But I’m not sure either of us knew when it might be.

So, I know in general you give out an allotted amount of time for each round beforehand. But there still is some wiggle in terms of how many submits happen in the last couple days. And if i manage to take a slight star lead, does it behoove me to not submit any more turns?

Any thoughts on how to make the endings a bit more predictable/smoother?

One idea: Once 2 weeks are up (or maybe 10 days so we stay on schedule), games get a set number of ticks to progress through to determine an outcome? Then everyone can be playing for a common end goal? Seems a little more fair and in the spirit of the game?

Sign-ups are now closed.

@Solfyre: I like the idea of a fixed tick target set some time close to the deadline based on current ticks to make it more fair. My worry is that it would have to be set quite low so the tournament timeline isn’t at risk of getting completely derailed. And if it is set too low it could halt a game that otherwise may run towards a clearer conclusion. I’ll think about it some more.

Password is 287 - please join your game with your forum name by June 24, otherwise it will be forfeited and your opponent automatically wins. Also be mindful to try and submit at least twice per day so we can get as many clear results by July 2 as possible. The next round will start after that day.

Good luck and have fun everyone! If your game concludes, please post about it in this thread.

*) If you haven’t already, consider sending me your country to represent it in the tournament and with a flag in the World Rankings!

Just spotted an underscore in my forum name that isn’t present in my game name. How do I sort that out? I’ve already registered into the game.

PS. New Zealand

No worries, as long as it’s easy to recognize who you are it’s fine. Thanks for the flag submission!

Thanks for setting this up! I am in Canada.

The tournament is aiming for players to submit twice a day, meaning 12 ticks. So, seems like a good number to aim for. 12 ticks per day until the game ends.

Something like players battle it out for 10 days getting in as many turns as they can. Then, with 4 days remaining, a 48 tick deadline is then applied. Players for the most part should be able to make that happen, I hope!

Only bummer is it might just be more work for you, our grand tournament master, @Trucriot .

For the honour of the great white south!

@Trucriot @tenerezu there is a problem in our game - we have mirrored stars, but not mirrored starting positions. We will probably need a remake?

Thanks for pointing that out. Quite unlucky.

I provided a new map in the tool, please join that one instead.

Good catch, especially since I missed the original start message

My opponent @June has not joined the game yet. I’ve dropped them a message to remind them of it.

We’re off to a flying ( ) start and my game with @AllSkillNoPants just concluded with a victory claimed for the Land Without Bears. They fought very well, especially considering it was 2nd game ever, but were slightly slow off the mark for the initial expansion, which then caused compound issues for the rest of the game. We had some pretty rapid submissions on both sides which is why it concluded so quickly as well!

Well played @Kaine and thanks again for being patient with me!

Grats both for the quick game! Next one should be even more intense in a week, so enjoy the break.

@June: @sarcophagus is still waiting for you. Please join your game immediately, otherwise the first round will be a forfeiture at the end of this week.

I managed to edge out @gaz123 in game 2. I think my risk of building an early Warp Gate at my home star made the difference, and helped me win the opening skirmishes.

Thanks for the game!
